November is a time to focus on being truly grateful for all the blessings we have received over the year, whether large or small. As I reflect on the past months and years, I find myself increasingly thankful for the path traveled to get here. I’m thankful for our members and how they show up daily to support our Y. I’m thankful for our Board of Directors, whose leadership and guidance helped to chart an exciting future for our Y. I’m thankful for our talented and compassionate staff, who always put the needs of our members ahead of their own. I’m thankful for my amazing wife and our two beautiful children. I’m thankful for the Lord providing shelter, sustenance, and the pouring out of grace and love daily for my family. November is an exciting time of year for our Y! From programs like Youth & Government, PILOTS, Caregivers Night Out, and, of course, our Annual Christmas Tree Lot — there is something for everyone this Fall at the YMCA of the Foothills.
Finally, in an all too familiar refrain, our YMCA is mindful of the destruction of Palestinian and Israeli lives through the latest military and ideological conflict. War separates family, friends, and entire populations from a sense of community, security, and safety. We pray for true and everlasting peace between the two sides, not a politically brokered deal that serves as a band-aid until the next round of conflicts. Looking at the YMCA of Jerusalem, we know peace and community between the two populations is achievable. This YMCA has served the Arab, Jewish, and Christian communities in harmony since 1933. In a 1933 speech made by Lord Edmond Allenby of England at the opening of the Jerusalem International Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA), he provides hope for true peace for the people of that region: “Here is a place whose atmosphere is peace, where political and religious jealousies can be forgotten and international unity fostered and developed.” As I have said before, the YMCA stands as a beacon of Love, Hope, and Community and is a true advocate for peace. As we all gather safely with family, friends, and neighbors, I hope this month brings good health, lots of laughs, and the enjoyment of your favorite treats. Onward and Upward!
