MAY 2025

English naturalist, outdoorsman, and writer Nigel “Fennel” Hudson once said, “May, more than any other month of the year, wants us to feel most alive”. I couldn’t agree with him more! The ancient world, as we do currently, looked at May as the time of year to celebrate longer days, new starts, and opportunities for growth, as well as more time outdoors.

In the “Y World”, May provides a meaningful reminder that healthy living and wellness are not limited to just fitness activities. May is also National Mental Health Awareness Month. The Y’s pathways to wellbeing have been, and always will be, a holistic approach to wellness by improving the lives of all people spiritually, mentally, physically, and socially. For those of us who struggle to find balance in this area, the Y sees you, the Y hears you, and the Y is here to help support you through multiple programs and services.

Creative and innovative programs like Caregivers Night Out, Nutritional Seminars, Hybrid Doc Talks in partnership with USC Verdugo Hills Hospital, and the Parkinson’s Fitness program are designed to support your overall well-being.

This time of year is also when our community gives back to the Y to help others in need. The 2025 Annual Support Campaign “FOOTHILLS STRONG” has raised $109,302 and 74% of our goal to date, which goes directly back to community members in need through access to membership, programs, and critical services.

“As a single mom with three kids, camp was a lot to cover,” says Kat C., parent and longtime Y supporter and member, “And so we utilized a partial scholarship, and it allowed my kids to be so much more involved. When I think about what the Y has meant to our family as we’ve grown and changed, it’s been a place for community.”

Kat and her family are among the countless members who have significantly benefited from this yearly campaign. Please consider donating and discover the remarkable impact your contribution can make. Click here to learn more: 2025 Annual Campaign

I wish you and your family a wonderful start to May. As always, we are here to support you withnew wellness opportunities and your mental well-being.

Onward and Upward!
