July CEO Newsletter

Happy July 1st from Lopez Lake in San Luis Obispo County!

Kelly, the kids, and I are off on our annual “Fourth of July” camping trip. We will visit Avila Valley Barn to feed goats, chickens, alpacas and maybe fit in a hayride, enjoy a sun splashed day at Avila Beach (our favorite little beach on the central coast), and partake in a little bit of “Americana” at Heritage Square Park in Arroyo Grande for the Fourth of July.

This annual Fourth of July trip always allows our family to relax, disconnect from technology, and reconnect with our camping friends. Camping and being in the presence of nature holds a special place in our hearts, and it’s something that I encourage you all to experience at some point over this summer.

In June we got to sneak away for a week and go camping at Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon National Park….and it did not disappoint. We were blown away by the natural beauty of each park, but I have to say Kelly, the kids and I were especially mesmerized by the hoodoos and topography of Bryce Canyon. The absolute highlight of the trip, which there were many, was our hike from Sunset Point down the Navajo Trail and looping around Two Bridges back to the top at Sunset Point. We saw the famous “Thor’s Hammer” and walked along “Wall Street” and the Douglas Firs.

Today is also a special date for our family as we collectively celebrate entering my 7th year as CEO of the YMCA of the Foothills. It has been such an honor and privilege to serve this community and this Y in this role; I have loved each day of my time as your CEO. With your love and support, our Y has accomplished a lot in the past six years. I thank our Board of Directors, our Leadership Staff, and our countless Volunteers for their incredible contributions to support the Y Mission in enriching the lives of all people spiritually, mentally, physically, and socially.

If you still haven’t made any summer plans, the Y has you covered! There are three different summer day camp locations, each offering a unique and exciting experience. We also have swim lessons, small group training, and a whole host of healthy lifestyle programming available. Visit our website at www.ymcafoothills.org for a complete list of summer options.

Wishing you and yours a safe and enjoyable July.

Onward and Upward!
