Happy New Year YMCA of the Foothills Family!

Before we launch into 2026, I hope your family enjoyed this holiday season. Whether you and your family celebrated Christmas, Hanukkah, or another holiday tradition, I pray that it brought you positivity, hope for good things to come, and, most importantly, that you felt loved.

In December, our Y was hard at work updating our facilities for our members to enjoy. The CCY project included modifying existing spaces to be more functional and user-friendly, brand-new cardio equipment, and updated paint/lighting to create a more relaxing and engaging environment for all of you.

Our Y is not just a “swim and gym.” We are a socially responsible organization providing solutions and services to our greater community in their time of need. This ethos was on display as we wrapped up 2025.

On Friday, December 19, YMCA of the Foothills was honored to partner with Beacon Housing and the Pasadena Community Foundation for a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating three newly built apartment units—homes that represent hope, stability, and a fresh start for three families who lost everything in the Eaton Fire. This project reflects what’s possible when mission-driven organizations come together with a shared commitment to community care. These thoughtfully designed homes are more than buildings; they are a foundation for healing and rebuilding lives. To further support the residents, YMCA of the Foothills has committed a $57,500 grant through our partnership with the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation and Max and Kellie Muncy to subsidize rent for the next two years, helping ensure housing stability during a critical time of recovery. One of our longtime members (who wishes to remain anonymous) stepped up big time and provided all the bedding and home furnishings for all three units—what an amazing act of generosity and kindness. We are deeply grateful to our partners and supporters who made this vision a reality, including our National Chief Operating Officer, Greg Waibel from Y USA, and Assemblyman John Harabedian, there in support. Together, we are living our mission—strengthening community, responding to urgent needs, and standing alongside families when it matters most—reinforcing our promise to our Altadena and Pasadena members that our Y will continue to walk alongside them in this recovery.

As we look back on a challenging and successful 2025, it’s important to acknowledge the amazing work of our Board of Directors, Staff, and Volunteers that helped us deliver the Y mission to as many people as possible. Their leadership is the cornerstone of the culture we have created: one firmly established in love, understanding, and opportunity for ALL people.

On behalf of our Board of Directors and our staff, I wish you and your family a Happy New Year and the happiest, healthiest holiday season.

Onward and Upward!
