YOUTH & GOVERNMENT FAQ'S

WHAT IS YOUTH & GOVERNMENT?
Youth and government is a national YMCA Program for students in the 9th-12th grade. The program enables young adults to prepare for post-high school opportunities via moral and political leadership through training in the theory and practice of developing public policy.
WHY JOIN YOUTH & GOVERNMENT?
Our delegates join Youth & Government because they want to work on becoming better public speakers, community, develop confidence, gain leadership skills, and have fun creating lifelong relationships with our other delegates.
DO YOU HAVE TO BE A Y MEMBER?
All Youth and Government participants this year do NOT have to be members. We will be offering a member and non-member price.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE DELEGATIONS?
The YMCA of the Foothills has three delegations that participate in the same program, we just offer two different locations. This Y&G year we will be registering for our delegations. However, we will be meeting as the Foothills delegation.
WHAT DOES THE REGISTRATION FEE COVER?

  • Conference Fees: Our Y pays $400 to the California YMCA Youth & Government Program for each delegate

  • The cost of a sweatshirt, delegation dinner, and program supplies total $100 per delegate

  • The same costs apply to each advisor that volunteers to lead the program.

  • Do I get a refund if I drop from the program? The first payment of $312.5 is a deposit and if you drop before participating there will be no refund. There will be 1 more payment to follow, if you drop before October 2, 2021 we will drop further payment, if dropped after these dates there will be no refunds.

NEW CHECK-IN PROCEDURE

  • Sign-in and out will take place in the parking lot, before the delegate can exit the car they must have their temperature/wellness check by a staff member. The parent must have signed in with a staff member (the whole check-in process will take place in the car).

  • Each Delegate will have a temperature and wellness check.

  • The delegate can NOT stay at Y & G if they have a fever and/or other flu/cold symptoms.

  • No-touch sign in/out. Staff will sign delegates in while parents are present.

  • All staff will be wearing masks.

PODS

We will be introducing Youth & Government Pods; when you sign up your delegate and they will be placed in a pod of twelve, and those twelve delegates will be together all year. Each family group pod will have a home base for the week that is assigned to them.

KEEPING YOUR DELEGATE HEALTHY

We will be taking preventive measures to follow all social distancing guidelines, lots of handwashing and extra hand washing stations, extra cleaning efforts in our home bases and rotation areas, keeping campers in a small group for the whole week, and much more.

VIRTUAL

This year we will both be virtual and in person. All the California YMCA conferences will be held virtual. The Foothills is working hard to create in-person meetings that will follow all CDC and state guidelines. Families who are uncomfortable sending their delegates to in-person meetings can follow along as we stream our meetings.

If you have any additional questions, please reach out to Chelsea.
