YOUTH BASKETBALL
What to expect from our Basketball Program!
BASKETBALL FOR AGES 5-13
Join the best basketball program in the community. After all, The Y invented basketball! James Naismith, a teacher at the international YMCA training school, invented basketball in 1891. He was challenged to create a game that could be played indoors during the cold winter months. By hanging simple peach baskets and using a soccer ball, Naismith created the game of basketball and wrote the first 13 rules of the game.
Youth Basketball encourages and promotes healthy kids, families and communities by prioritizing family involvement, wholesome competition and the value of participation - not just winning. Kids and teens learn team-building skills, a sense of fair play and mutual respect for others, while also growing as individuals and developing a positive self-image. Youth Basketball is held during the spring, summer, and fall months for youths ages 5 - 13. We encourage parents to get involved by contributing time as volunteer coaches - as well as being their kid's greatest fan.

Volunteer Coaches:
Our leagues success is dependent on the generosity of parent volunteer coaches. If you are interested in making an impact, please consider volunteering to be a coach. Your dedication is appreciated.
Parent Information Night:
A Parent Rally will be held on TBD via ZOOM. A link will be sent to you on Monday. The rally will be recorded and posted on our website if you are unable to attend.
When are teams assigned?
Coaches should expect to receive their team rosters a few weeks before the first weekend of games. Coaches will then contact their parents to setup their initial team meeting.
Team Requests:
We will consider requests for players in the 5–6 year old division. However, we must also consider a balanced team are unable to accommodate requests for players to be placed with a specific coach.
For all other divisions, we do not accept requests. For these divisions, only siblings (same household) can be on the same team.
Can a player be moved to another team?
Players will not be moved to another team after team rosters are created. Due to the high number of participants, the YMCA is currently not able to accommodate any change requests after rosters are created. Refunds will not be honored due to no being able to accommodate a request.
Can my child play in a different age division?
The YMCA may approve a player to play up in a division (with children older) depending on the situation. The YMCA does not allow any player to play down.
Uniforms:
All Players must wear the correct YMCA basketball uniform. Which can be purchased here: https://augustasportswear.tuosystems.com/stores/ymcafoothills
