Healthy Halloween inspires thousands of kids to donate thousands of pounds of leftover Halloween candy every year. Gianna participated and was happy to see her donated candy go to Operation Gratitude to troops overseas. “I am eight years old and have no cavities. I want to keep my teeth and body healthy.” Kids like Gianna from over 25 local schools participate every year and one winner per school gets a brand new bike to keep them active the rest of the year.
Thank you to everyone who supported Healthy Halloween this year! Our Y worked with 25 local elementary schools and the community to collect extra Halloween candy and donate it to Operation Gratitude, which sends the candy overseas. Each pound of candy donated was worth a raffle ticket for the grand prizes, 28 brand new red bikes. All the money raised supported our Childhood Obesity Prevention Initiative by funding our P.L.A.Y. program, a program developed in partnership with Cal State Fullerton to promote physical activity.
