APRIL 22, 2020 YMCA of the Foothills Community blood drive
Wednesday, April 22, 2020
 
The YMCA of the Foothills partnered with the American Red Cross today for a Blood Drive at our Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA location. “Volunteers carry out 90% of the humanitarian work of the Red Cross.” (American Red Cross) Together we donated nearly 60 pints of blood to our community.


With the continual need for blood, the YMCA of the Foothills will be hosting two additional American Red Cross blood drives at our Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA at 1930 Foothill Boulevard in La Canada Flintridge on Wednesday, May 13 and June 17 from 8am-2pm. The Blood Drive accepts volunteers by appointment only and spots book up quickly. April 15, 2020 YMCA OF THE FOOTHILLS Drive through food pick up
The YMCA of the Foothills is excited to continue our successful Drive Thru Food Pick Up. Every Wednesday between 10:00am - 11:00am at our Crescenta Valley Family YMCA Location (3931 Lowell Ave. La Crescenta, CA 91214) we will be providing families with a free fresh bag of produce to those in need, or who are unable to get to the grocery store. Today we were able to served over 50 different families. A New Year means a fresh start and the YMCA of the Foothills challenges you and your family to join us and Rise to Your Best in 2020! 

The YMCA of the Foothills is pleased to announce the addition of a new Small Group Training Center, along with two new modernized Racquetball Courts at the Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA location. The Y hosted an Open House Saturday, January 4th with a ribbon cutting of the new centers with special guests, Councilman Greg Brown, La Canada Flintridge Chamber of Commerce President Pat Anderson, and La Canada Flintridge Chamber of Commerce Member Carrie Grochow. All were there to celebrate with Board Chair Brian Daniels, Vice Chair David Kim, and Board Member Jennifer LeBlanc. ​

La Cañada Flintridge, CA - YMCA of the Foothills announces Tyler Wright’s resignation as President/CEO.

The YMCA of the Foothills and its Board of Directors announced on September 26, 2019, that President/CEO Tyler S. Wright has resigned to accept a position as President/CEO of the YMCA of Columbia-Willamette, effective November 8, 2019.

Under Tyler’s leadership, the YMCA of the Foothills has made a profound impact in the Foothills communities.   Since 2010, the YMCA of the Foothills has seen tremendous growth in membership moving from 17,000 in 2010 to our current membership of over 32,000 members across the Foothills. In 2011, Tyler reintroduced the annual Community Prayer Breakfast and in 2016, Tyler led the YMCA’s expansion and introduced a presence in La Crescenta with the opening of the Cresenta Valley Family YMCA.   In addition to the YMCA’s local impact, Tyler also served on the board of the California State Alliance of YMCAs from 2016 through 2019 and served as Board Chair from 2018 to 2019 and has strengthened relationships globally with the Busan YMCA in South Korea and cultural exchange programs with the YMCA of Armenia.

The Board of Directors has named Jeanne Hobson as interim CEO effective October 14, 2019. Jeanne served on the YMCA of the Foothills board for four years and is the Immediate Past Board Chair. She also served as the Healthy Living Committee Chair and Annual Campaign Chair.  Jeanne’s career has been in retail strategy and executive management and most recently, served as the Sr VP, Retail Strategy & Solutions for The Walt Disney Company.

Last summer, YMCA of the Foothills and the Gorvetzian Family were proud to provide swim lessons to the community at no cost, teaching essential water safety and drowning prevention. This summer the tradition continues to provide free swim lessons as part of the Y’s Safety Around Water Inititiave.

This summer, lessons will take place at the Tierra del Sol campus in Sunland-Tujunga through August 15th in two week sessions. Lessons are available to all Sunland, Tujunga, and Sun Valley Residents non-swimmers. Lessons are free to children entering K-3rd grade and $25 for children entering 4th-8th grade.

april 9, 2019  YMCA of the foothills 44th Annual Fiesta Days Run
April 9th, 2019
 
The YMCA of the Foothills will host the 44th Annual Fiesta Days Run, presented by USC Verdugo Hills Hospital on Memorial Day, May 27th. This event is part of Fiesta Days, the La Cañada Flintridge Chamber of Commerce’s Memorial Day Celebration bringing over 1,000 local runners, families and volunteers together for a fun and inspiring morning.
 
Participants can choose from the new “Foothills Fastest Mile,” a beautiful 1 mile family fun run/walk, 5K, or 10K all held at Descanso Gardens. All proceeds benefit the Y’s Healthy Aging Inititave empowering seniors through balance assesments, strength classes, and ongoing support.
 
Sign ups and more information is available on the website at www.ymcafoothills.org/fiesta-days. Registration fees include race entry, chip timing, goody bag, YMCA Fiesta Days Run T-shirt, refreshments, awards, and raffle prizes from local businesses.
