For the first time in 43 years, YMCA of the USA is unveiling a new brand strategy on behalf of the 2,687 Ys in the US. The strategy is designed to increase understanding of the impact Ys make in the communities we serve and it focuses on simplifying how we describe our work to:
§ Nurture the potential of children and teens;
§ Improve the nation’s health and well-being, and
§ Motivate people to support their neighbors and the larger community.
We at the YMCA of the Foothills are enthusiastic in our support of this comprehensive nationwide effort to help people understand what we do and why we do it.
YMCA (Young Men’s Christian Association) remains the official and legal name of the organization. However, we will now embrace the nickname “the Y” that so many people have already used for years.
The rebranding will include organizing Y offerings into three areas of focus—youth development, healthy living and social responsibility—as well as a fresh, new visual system built around a revitalized logo in five color pairings (above) intended to reflect the vibrancy of our organization and the diversity of the communities we serve.
Ys across the country will implement the strategy on their own timeline; we anticipate completing the rebranding process and adopting the new logo by early 2011.
